National Day of Action
Details of relationship equality protests across Australia to mark a year since the Federal Government banned same-sex marriage in national law.
August 13th marks a year since the Federal Parliament passed an amendment to the Marriage Act strictly defining marriage as between a man and a woman.
There will be co-ordinated actions in a number of different states, including rallies and weddings in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart.
In Sydney there will be a rally commencing in Taylor Square at 1pm and a march down Oxford Street to Hyde Park. Speakers include Dr Kerryn Phelps, Clover Moore MP, Anthony Venn-Brown and Senator Kerry Nettle.
In Melbourne there will be a rally at 2pm at the Melbourne Town Hall followed by a march to Federation Square and Mid-winter Vows. At 4pm there will be a special screening of the Australian marriage equality documentary, "Just Married", at Ffour, Level 2, Hub Arcade, 318-322 Little Collins St.
In Brisbane there will be a rally at the QUT end of the Goodwill Bridge at 11am. Speakers include Senator Andrew Bartlett (Democrats), Juanita Wheeler (Greens) and Carman Parsons (ARCQ & AME)
In Perth there will be a rally at 12pm at the Perth Cultural Centre, James St, Northbridge and a renewal of vows by prominent married WA gay couple, Damien and Graham Douglas-Meyer. At 1pm there will be a reception at the Court Hotel, 50 Beaufort St, Northbridge.
In Hobart there will be two mock same-sex weddings on the lawns of Parliament House at 1pm, followed at 2pm by a reception and special screening of, "Just Married" at the School of Fine Arts in Hunter St. Wedding speakers include gay activist, Rodney Croome, Greens MP, Mick McKim. "Just Married" will be introduced by director, Vicky Jones.
