Support Civil Unions in the ACT
This action alert was issued by ACT LGBTI action group, Good Process, on Thursday March 30th 2006.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!The ACT Chief Minister has been receiving large
amounts of emails and currently has only about 20%
supporting the ACT Govt and 80% against and we know
how organised our opposition is. Remember the famous
13,000 to 100 on the Marriage Act amendment in 2004!
We need to put our voice behind the ACT people and the
ACT Government!
Please let the federal politician’s know that those
who support their disciminatory actions are in fact in
the minority and that most fair-minded Australia's do
support recognising same-sex relationships and
removing discrimination.
Please personalise the message if you can, it gives it
more weight with politicians than a template letter.
If you are feeling despondent read some of the great
media coverage we have been getting. – We do have
supporters out there!!

Feds make it harder for gay Australians to marry overseas / Legal action possible over policy that "exports prejudice"
This media release was issued by the Australian Coalition for Equality on 14.1.06
The Federal Government's refusal to issue the documents necessary for Australians to enter into same-sex marriages overseas has angered gay activists and prompted threats of legal action. It was revealed today by The Age that in August last year the Australian Embassy in Vienna refused to issue documents confirming that an Australian citizen, Peter Kakucska, who was seeking to marry his male partner in the Netherlands, was not already married in Australia.

Superannuation income splitting
This call-to-action comes from the ACT's LGBT action group, Good Process
The Dept of Treasury released a draft of regulations for the Super Contributions Splitting and invited comments from interested parties by Friday 11 November 2005.Super Contributions Splitting will allow couples to re-allocate the money paid into super from their employer, salary sacrifice or personal ‘undeducted’ contributions, into their spouse’s account after the end of the financial year. Super Contributions Splitting will be extremely valuable to some couples, providing an opportunity for couples to build up their superannuation more tax effectively.

Relationship reform in South Australia
This is an up-date and a call-to-action from the Adelaide-based Let's Get Equal campaign.
Last week, the state Upper House began debating the Government's Same Sex Relationships Bill and compromise amendments moved by Liberal MP Michelle Lensink. The Government needs two votes from the Liberals in addition to the Democrats in the Upper House to pass the legislation and Ms Lensink's compromise amendments appear to have garnered sufficient support to enable them to carry and therefore to enable the bill to pass the Upper House.[ read more... ] [ comments? ]
