'Minority lifestyles'

Please write to ALP National Conference delegates supporting marriage equality.

Opponents of marriage equality have broken their long, and, assumedly, strategic, silence on the issue.

In response to the Tasmanian Labor state conference decision on Sunday to support same-sex marriage, the Australian Christian Lobby went on the attack in today’s Australian, reminding the Prime Minister of his election promise not to change the Marriage Act.

In the process, it took a swipe at those with “minority lifestyles” who want to radically change the definition of marriage to suit tiny numbers of people (which I can only assume means Tony Abbott).

The PM’s response was to re-iterate his support for relationship registers but not same-sex marriage or civil unions (even though relationship registers are civil unions, the bizarre distinction having been concocted by the PM and the ACL to save face).

Attorney-General, Robert McClelland has backed him up.

We could dismiss this as the usual farce, were it not so serious.

It seems anti-gay groups like the ACL and Salt Shakers are mobilising their members to lobby delegates at this weekend’s ALP national Conference in Sydney.

Their aim is to keep same-sex marriage off the conference agenda completely. And it seems their voices are being heard. Some delegates report being emailed by dozens of equality opponents.

For this reason, Australian Marriage Equality has produced a list of National Conference delegates and their contacts, together with five relevant talking points.

Please contact delegates and voice your support for marriage equality.

In other news,

Jason Akermanis asks why there aren’t any out gay AFL players, and ruefully concludes irrational prejudice is to blame.

Hi Rodney,

I've emailed all those on the list provide AME. I've also written to my local member but unfortunately he's probably a lame duck as he's announced he's standing down at the next election.

I don't know why the Prime Minister is so adamant about keeping this particular commitment regarding his objection to altering the Marriage Act, when he seems to have had no qualms about breaking so many other promises.

Kevin Rudd is rapidly proving himself to be just another God botherer that wants to inflict his own personal religious convictions on the rest of Australia - despite the Australian community overwhelmingly in support of the option of marriage being made available to same sex couples.

Yes, Rudd is becoming the "Prime Minister of Broken Promises", DavidB.

They will come back to bite him on the bum once the comedy team called 'Her Majesty's Opposition' gets act together (a long way off I would say - can you imagine Tony 'The Mad Monk' Abbott as Op. Leader? LOL)

Wallace - "However, the vast majority are strongly opposed to allowing these aggressive activists to undermine an institution as fundamental to society and marriage for their political objectives."

You lying bastard! You know perfectly well that a clear majority of Australians now support full marriage equality.

Some "Christian".
